She began playing volleyball at age 12, but had to stop at age 15 because of her leg amputation. She became interested in the sport again while she was at university and she took up sitting volleyball in 1996. "[It] was a time of great change for me - independent life outside of home, new people, and the opportunity to take part in sport. I found out that I could return to my beloved volleyball."
