General Interest

General
Canada were one of two teams to qualify for Tokyo 2020 via the 2019 Paralympic Ranking Tournament in Fort Wayne, IN, United States of America. They are making their ninth appearance at the Games, having competed at every Paralympic goalball tournament but one [1996]. Canada's record of five Paralympic medals is surpassed only by the US team, who have six. The continental rivals are tied for the most Paralympic golds, with two each.

After winning silver at the first Paralympic Games to feature women's goalball in 1984, Canada made the podium at each of their next four appearances. They secured consecutive third-place finishes in 1988 and 1992, and then won back-to-back titles in 2000 and 2004. Since Athens 2004, the Canadian team have not managed to progress beyond the quarterfinals at the Games, and in 2016 they were eliminated in the last eight by the United States of America.

Crowned world champions in 2006, Canada have been unable to secure a world championship medal since then in two appearances. At the 2018 World Championships in Malmo, they were beaten in the third-place match by Brazil.
