General Interest

General
Lithuania are the reigning Paralympic champions, having claimed their first goalball gold medal at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. After four wins in the group stage, Lithuania recorded wins in the knockout stages over Canada and Sweden to secure a berth in the final, where they sealed the gold medal with a 14-8 defeat of the United States of America.

The gold medal in Rio was third time lucky for the Lithuanians. They had lost the final of the 2008 Games by a single goal to the People's Republic of China despite holding a 6-2 lead at half-time, and lost the final of the 2000 Games to Denmark where they made their Paralympic debut. The Lithuanians also lost the bronze medal match at the 2012 Games in London to Turkey.

Lithuania claimed back-to-back world championship titles in 2006 and 2010, the first team to achieve the feat. They have finished in the top four at the two most recent editions of the tournament. At the 2018 World Championships in Malmo, they lost in the semifinals to eventual champions Brazil, and went on to lose the bronze medal match 9-2 to Belgium.

Lithuania qualified for Tokyo after finishing first at the 2019 International Qualifier held in Fort Wayne, IN, United States of America.
