Origin of Impairment
Acquired (Athlete, 06 Nov 2019)

Impairment Details
She has foot drop in her right leg, as well as instability and nerve damage in her right knee. Her impairment is the result of a water skiing accident when she was age 19. "The ski was twisted. I had torn my right leg's ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] and PCL [posterior cruciate ligament], and also severed the arteries and nerves. They grafted my arteries so it didn't have to be amputated. The first question I asked the surgeons after the operation was, 'When can I start throwing again? I want to go to the Olympics'. They said to me, 'You'll never throw again'. After that it still took me a year to learn how to walk again." (abc.net.au, 20 Mar 2019; athletics.com.au, 01 Jan 2017; Athlete, 06 Nov 2019)
