General Interest

Judoka Naomi Suazo won Venezuela's only Paralympic gold medal when she claimed the women's 63kg category title at the 2008 Games in Beijing. She missed out on the podium at London 2012 but won bronze in Rio in 2016, where she stepped up to the women's 70kg division.

Ricardo Santana's five Paralympic medals are the most by any Venezuelan athlete. He won his first medal, a bronze in the men's T13 200m, at the Sydney 2000 Games before going on to claim another two bronze medals and a silver at the 2004 Games in Athens. He secured his fifth medal, a silver, in the men's T11-13 4x100m relay at Beijing 2008. Athletics competitors Oduver Jose Daza Troconis and Omar Monterola are the only other athletes to have won multiple Paralympic medals for Venezuela.
