General Interest

Uzbekistan made its Paralympic debut at the 2004 Games in Athens. Powerlifter Yusup Kadyrov was the NPC's sole representative at the Games.

Uzbekistan arrived at the 2016 Games in Rio with one medal to its name, a silver from judoka Sharif Kalilov at London 2012. In a dramatic upturn of form the NPC won 31 medals in Brazil, with Uzbekistani athletes claiming eight gold medals - three apiece from athletics and judo, and two swimming titles - as well as six silver and 17 bronze.

All eight Paralympic champions from 2016 were making their debut appearance at the Games, except for Para thrower Khusniddin Norbekov who had competed four years earlier in London.
