General Interest
Uruguay won its first and only Paralympic medal at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, where Jorge Llerena claimed a bronze medal in the men's T10 200m. Llerena also came close to claiming another medal for the NPC, achieving fifth-place finishes in the men's T10 100m and P11 pentathlon at the 1996 and 2000 Games, respectively, as well as sixth place in the men's T10 long jump in Atlanta in 1996.
At the 2016 Games in Rio, Uruguay sent a delegation of four athletes to compete in four sports - athletics, swimming, judo, and equestrian dressage. Henry Borge reached the quarterfinals of the men's 60kg judo event in Rio in what was his third Paralympic appearance. He is the only Uruguayan athlete to have competed at more than two editions of the Paralympic Games.
