Slovenia - Profile
General Interest
Slovenia won two Paralympic gold medals on debut at the 1992 Games in Barcelona, courtesy of Franjo Izlakar's victories in the men's C7 discus throw and C7 shot put. Izlakar returned to the Games four years later in Atlanta to add a silver in the F36 shot put, and ended his Paralympic career with another silver in the F37 shot put at Sydney 2000.
The only Slovenian athlete to match Izlakar's total of four Paralympic medals is shooter Franc Pinter, who won three silver medals and one bronze medal between 1996 and 2008. Pinter has made six appearances at the Games, which makes him the NPC's most experienced Paralympian.
Slovenia's other two Paralympic gold medallists are both female athletes. Table tennis player Mateja Pintar won gold in the women's singles class 3 at the 2004 Games in Athens, and also claimed bronze in the same classification at Beijing 2008. Shooter Veselka Pevec then claimed the gold in the R4 10m air rifle standing SH2 open event at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
