Team Republic of Korea - Profile

The Republic of Korea hosted the 1988 Paralympic Games in Seoul, and that event is an outlier in terms of its medal tallies with the National Paralympic Committee taking 40 gold medals and 94 medals at that single event.

The NPC has not come close to that level of success since, never accumulating more than 18 gold medals [2000] or 44 total medals [1992] at a single Games.

Shooter Kim Im-Yeon is among the Republic of Korea's most successful Paralympians in individual events with a tally of five gold, three silver and one bronze medal.

Kim Kyung Mook's 13 Paralympic medals, including four gold, in table tennis between 1992 and 2016 put him among his NPC's best-performed athletes. He won a silver in Rio in 2016 in the team class 1-2 event.

Hong Suk-Man is also notable for his success in athletics, winning four gold medals, one silver and one bronze across the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Games. Competing over distances from 100m to 800m during his career, he contested the 2000 Games in Sydney, but just missed out on two podiums, finishing fourth twice.
