General Interest
The Philippines first sent athletes to compete at the Paralympic Games in 1988, and has been represented at every Games since with the exception of Atlanta 1996. It has won two Paralympic medals, in powerlifting and table tennis.
Powerlifter Adeline Dumapong claimed the Philippines' first Paralympic medal when she won bronze in the women's 82.5kg category at the 2000 Games in Sydney.
At the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, table tennis player Josephine Medina added the NPC's second medal, also bronze, in the women's class 8 singles event. Medina had narrowly missed out on the podium four years earlier in London, where she lost the bronze medal match in the same event. At Rio 2016 the Philippines also had representatives in swimming, powerlifting and athletics.
