General Interest

Papua New Guinea sent a delegation of athletes to the Paralympic Games for the first time in 1984. Since then it has been represented at the Games in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2016, and it has won one Paralympic medal.

Francis Kompaon became the first athlete from Papua New Guinea to win a medal at the Paralympic Games when he claimed silver in the men's T46 100m at Beijing 2008.

Athletics competitors Joyleen Jeffrey and Samuel Nason were the NPC's only two representatives at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Neither athlete qualified for a final in their respective track events.
