Mozambique first sent athletes to the Paralympic Games at the 2012 Games in London, and in Rio in 2016 the NPC won its first Paralympic medal.
Athletics competitor Edmilsa Governo was the only representative of Mozambique at Rio 2016, and she claimed a historic bronze in the women's T12 400m. Governo also competed in the T12 100m in Rio, reaching the semifinals.
