General Interest

Athlete, swimmer and table tennis player Josefina Cornejo is Mexico's most successful Paralympian in individual events with eight gold, five silver and one bronze medal. She won six medals, including four gold at the 1976 Games, before going one better to win eight medals at the 1980 Games, including another four gold medals.

Amalia Perez has won a medal in each of the past five Paralympic Games in powerlifting. This includes gold in the previous three Games, most recently a victory in the women's 55kg weight division at the 2016 Games in Rio.

In total, athletes from Mexico won 15 medals five years ago in Rio, including four gold medals across three sports - judo, athletics and powerlifting.
