General Interest
Kyrgyzstan has almost exclusively sent powerlifters to the Paralympic Games. In the six Games its athletes have attended before Tokyo 2020, only two have competed in another sport, both in athletics and both at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Before the most recent Games in Brazil, Roman Omurbekov had recorded Kyrgyzstan's best Paralympic result, a sixth place in the men's 52kg powerlifting at Athens 2004. Omurbekov competed at four Paralympic Games, the most by any Kyrgyzstani athlete.
Esen Kaliev went one better than Omurbekov at the Rio Games, finishing fifth in the men's 54kg powerlifting event.
