General Interest

Athletics has been Kuwait's most successful sport at the Paralympic Games and Adelah Al-Romi can be credited with making the largest contribution to the National Paralympic Committee's record.

Al-Romi collected gold medals across three consecutive Games between 1980 and 1988 in both track and field events. She won the class 2 60m and 200m events at the 1980 Games, discus class 2 in 1984 and javelin class 2 in 1988. Along the way, she accumulated silver medals at each Games, including one in her final Paralympic participation in 1992.

Kuwait had a gold medal drought broken at the Rio Games in 2016 when Ahmad Almutairi won the T33 100m athletics event. It was his first career medal in his second Games, but was his NPC's first since Ahmad Aladwani won the T53 400m athletics event in Athens in 2004.
