Kenya - Profile
General Interest
The overwhelming majority of Kenya's medals at the Paralympic Games have been won in athletics, with swimming and lawn bowls the only other sports in which it has featured on the podium. Since 2004 in Athens, the National Paralympic Committee has managed to win multiple gold medals at each Games, with its highest total of five coming in Beijing in 2008.
Henry Kirwa, Abraham Tarbei and Henry Wanyoike are responsible for nine of Kenya's 13 medals won in the period since 2004, all three taking their Paralympic titles on the athletics track.
Kirwa leads the way with four total gold medals in the T12 and T13 category over 1500m, 5000m and 10000m won at the 2008 and 2016 Games. He competed in London in 2012, but won only a bronze, one of two he has tallied over his three Games.
Tarbei won a medal in every event he entered at the Paralympic Games, taking gold in T46 1500m race in 2008 and defending it in 2012. Over 5000m in the same category in 2008 he took gold and added a bronze in the 800m event in 2012.
Wanyoike has three gold medals, his first won in 2000 in the T11 5000m event, a title he defended in 2004. In Athens, he added gold over 10,000m.
