General Interest
Greece first sent a delegation to the Paralympic Games in 1976 in Montreal. The NPC's most successful Paralympian is swimmer Charalampos Taiganidis, who won 10 medals [four gold, four silver, two bronze] at the three editions of the Games between 2004 and 2012. He also competed at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro but was unable to add to his medal tally.
Christos Tampaxis and Christos Angourakis share the honour of having represented Greece the most times at the Paralympic Games. Tampaxis competed in swimming at six consecutive editions of the Games between 1996 and 2016, winning a total of two gold medals and three silver medals, while Angourakis debuted in swimming at the 1976 Games and then made a further five appearances in athletics between 1988 and 2004.
Greek athletes claimed a total of five gold medals at the 2016 Paralympic Games, with three coming in athletics, one in swimming, and another in powerlifting. Athanasios Konstantinidis was Greece's best performer in Rio, with gold in the F32 shot put and silver in the F32 club throw. The NPC's only other multiple medallist at the 2016 Games was Grigoris Polychronidis, who claimed a silver and a bronze in boccia.
