Georgia - Profile
General Interest
Georgia made its Paralympic debut in Beijing in 2008 when Iago Gorgodze placed eighth in the men's 90kg powerlifting event. He was the NPC's sole competitor at the Games.
Georgia won its first Paralympic medal, a gold, in their third appearance at the Games, with 29-year-old Zviadi Gogochuri taking the men's 90kg judo title at Rio 2016.
At the 2016 Games in Brazil, it sent a delegation of five athletes to represent the NPC in five sports - swimming, fencing, archery, powerlifting and judo.
This was the largest delegation of athletes ever sent by Georgia to a Games and more than doubled the number of athletes to have represented Georgia at the Paralympic Games, following delegations of one and two at the 2008 and 2012 Games, respectively.
