General Interest
The Dominican Republic's sole Paralympic medal was won on the athletics track by Robert Jimenez in the men's T12 200m in 1996. He also competed over 100m at Atlanta 1996, but could only finish ranked eighth.
Since Jimenez's gold, no Dominican athletes have come close to winning a second medal for the NPC. Alfonso Olivero Encarnacion is the only athlete to represent the Dominican Republic at more than one edition of the Paralympic Games, competing in athletics events at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
Two athletes represented the Dominican Republic in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Jose Frank Rodriguez in four cycling events and Joselito Hernandez in athletics sprint events. The NPC's best result achieved in Rio was Rodriguez's 11th-place finish in the men's C5 4km pursuit.
