General Interest

Cyprus has two Paralympic gold medals, which were both won by swimmer Karolina Pelendritou. She secured her first gold at age 18 in the SB13 100m breaststroke at Athens 2004, and claimed her second four years later in Beijing in the SB12 100m breaststroke. Pelendritou also has a bronze medal from the Beijing Games, as well as a silver medal in the SB12 100m breaststroke at London 2012 to take her overall tally to four.

Runner Antonis Aresti is the other Cypriot athlete to have finished on the podium at the Paralympic Games. He won two silver medals in the T46 category over 200m and 400m at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

Pelendritou and Aresti were the only athletes to represent Cyprus at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Pelendritou just missed out on a fifth Paralympic medal, placing fourth in the SB13 100m breaststroke, while Aresti finished sixth in the T47 400m.
