General Interest

Since Cuba made its Paralympic debut in 1992, competitors from the NPC have won gold medals in athletics, judo, and swimming.

One of Cuba's most successful Paralympians is Yunidis Castillo. She claimed five gold medals across the 2008 and 2012 Games, which included the double-double in the T46 100m and T46 200m as well as gold in the T46 400m in 2012. She also won a silver medal in the T47 long jump at Rio 2016. Omara Durand is another Cuban athlete with five Paralympic gold medals, and she became one of the stars of the 2016 Games by sweeping the T12 100m, 200m and 400m track events. She had also won gold medals four years earlier in London in the T13 100m and T13 400m.

Judokas Dalidaivis Rodriguez and Isao Rafael Cruz Alonso are both multiple Paralympic gold medallists. Cruz Alonso claimed gold in the men's 81kg category in 2000 and 2008, while Rodriguez secured consecutive titles in the women's 63kg class in 2012 and 2016.

Lorenzo Perez became the first Cuban swimmer to claim gold at the Paralympic Games in 2016, winning the men's S6 100m final in Rio de Janeiro.
