General Interest

Five athletes have represented Cape Verde at the Paralympic Games since the NPC made its debut at Athens 2004. Cape Verdean competitors have participated in athletics and powerlifting at the Games.

Cape Verde sent three athletes to the 2004 Games in Athens. Powerlifter Paulo Cesar Tavares competed in the men's 82.5kg category, while Artimiza Sequeira and Paulo Cesar Correira contested throwing events in athletics. Sequeira also represented Cape Verde at the 2008 Games in Beijing, and is one of two athletes from the NPC to have appeared at multiple editions of the Games. The other is Marcio Fernandes, who competed in the T44 100m, 200m, and javelin throw at London 2012, and then the T44 javelin four years later in Rio de Janeiro.

Gracelino Tavares Barbosa finished third in the men's T20 400m at Rio 2016 and became the first athlete representing Cape Verde to win a medal at the Paralympic Games.
