General Interest

Athletes from Burundi first competed at the Paralympic Games in 2008 in Beijing, where the NPC was represented by three competitors. Leonidas Ahishakiye and Fidele Manirambona both contested the men's T46 1500m, while Remy Nikobimeze ran in the men's T46 5000m and finished just outside the medals in fifth position.

Nikobimeze went on to compete at the next two editions of the Paralympic Games as the sole representative of Burundi in London and Rio de Janeiro. At London 2012 he ran in the T46 800m and T46 1500m, finishing 14th in both events, and then placed eighth in the T46 1500m four years later in Rio de Janeiro.
