General Interest

Bulgaria was first represented at the Paralympic Games in 1988 in Seoul. Competitors from the NPC have achieved most success in athletics at the Games.

Throwing athlete Georgi Sakelarov finished on the podium a total of five times between 1988 and 1996. He claimed gold medals in the B2 discus in 1988 and in the B2 shot put in 1988 and 1992, as well as a silver medal in 1992 and a bronze in 1996. More recently, Stela Eneva won three silver medals across the women's F57/58 shot put and discus events at the 2008 and 2012 Games, while Ruzhdi Ruzhdi secured gold in the men's F55 shot put at Rio 2016. Ruzhdi was the only Bulgarian athlete to win a medal of any colour in Brazil.

Swimmer Polina Dzhurova claimed silver in the women's S6 100m backstroke at the 1996 Games in Atlanta. She also competed at the Games in 2004 but could not add to her tally of Paralympic medals.
