General Interest
Tshotlego Morama became Botswana's first Paralympian when she competed in the women's T46 400m at the 2004 Games in Athens. At just 17 years of age, Morama achieved immediate success by winning gold and finishing more than a second ahead of her nearest rival in the final.
Morama was unable to defend her Paralympic title in 2008 in Beijing as injury kept her out of the Games. Her performance in 2004 remained the only appearance at a Paralympic Games by an athlete representing Botswana until Keatlaretse Mabote finished 10th in the men's T12 400m in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
