General Interest

Argentina has seen most success in athletics and swimming at the Paralympic Games. One of the NPC's most decorated Paralympic athletes is Silvia Cochetti, who claimed three gold medals in swimming in 1964 in Tokyo as well as two more in athletics four years later at the 1968 Games in Tel Aviv. She also won a further three silver medals and three bronze medals at the Games in 1964 and 1968 [five in athletics, one in swimming], and was part of the Argentina wheelchair basketball team that claimed silver at Tel Aviv 1968.

Throwing athlete Susana Olarte is another multiple gold medallist at the Paralympic Games. She claimed gold in shot put in 1964 in Tokyo, and then won three gold medals [club, discus, shot put] in 1968.

Sprinter Yanina Andrea Martinez won gold in the women's T36 100m at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Her victory was Argentina's first Paralympic gold medal since swimmer Betiana Basualdo and sprinter Suarez Nestor won their respective events at the 1996 Games in Atlanta.
