General Interest
Algeria has sent a delegation of athletes to compete at each edition of the Paralympic Games since 1992. Competitors from the NPC have won 23 gold medals during that period, with 20 of those coming in athletics.
Sprinter Mohammed Allek claimed a total of five Paralympic gold medals across the 1996 and 2000 Games, and also secured a bronze medal at Athens 2004. Middle distance runner Samir Nouioua is also a multiple gold medallist at the Paralympic Games. He triumphed in the men's T46 class in the 1500m and 5000m at the 2004 Games in Athens, and then won his third Paralympic gold medal with victory in the T46 1500m 12 years later in Rio de Janeiro. Nouioua also claimed three silver medals and two bronze medals between 2004 and 2012 to bring his total of podium finishes at the Paralympic Games to eight.
The only other sport Algerian athletes have won Paralympic gold in is judo. Algeria's most recent judo success came in 2008 in Beijing, where Sid Ali Lamri and Mouloud Noura claimed gold. Both judokas added a bronze to their gold medals four years later in London.
Athletes from Algeria won four gold medals at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to Nouioua's success in the T46 1500m, there was gold for Abdellatif Baka in the men's T13 1500m. Asmahan Boudjadar and Nassima Saifi also claimed gold medals in the women's F33 shot put and F57 discus throw, respectively.
