France are the reigning world champions, having claimed the last three world championship titles on offer. At the 2020 edition in Hamburg they finished eight seconds ahead of closest challengers the United States of America, after edging Germany by four seconds in 2019 and comfortably beating Australia to gold by 43 seconds at the 2018 edition. They qualified for Tokyo thanks to their position in the world rankings.
The French team have won four world titles in total, claiming the first in 2015, and also have three world championship silver medals [2010, 2012 and 2014]. Both their world championship gold medals and total medals [seven] are the most of any team. On the World Series they have been less dominant, but won the 2019 event held on the Tokyo 2020 course, narrowly ahead of the British team.
France won back-to-back European championship titles in 2018 and 2019, after placing second in 2017.
