General Interest

General
Australia secured their place at Tokyo 2020 courtesy of their world ranking.

The Australian team have a world title to their name, triumphing at the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg ahead of the United States of America and the Netherlands. Since that victory they finished second at the 2018 edition behind France, and then third in 2019 behind second-placed Germany and the dominant French team. They did not compete at the 2020 World Championships in Hamburg.

At the World Series event held on the Tokyo Olympic course in 2019, Australia finished fifth, just more than a minute behind winners France. The Australian team won the Abu Dhabi leg of the series earlier that year, and also claimed victory at the 2018 World Series event in Edmonton, finishing ahead of the US team on both occasions.

Australia won gold on a home course at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Queensland.
