She took up triathlon in 2011 while still competing in surf lifesaving and ironwoman events. "It wasn't until 2013 or 2014 where my coach Mick Delamotte got a hold of me at a local event and gave me the chance to consider switching over to triathlon. By the end of high school, I knew I wanted to be a professional athlete on an international level. It was a hard decision to leave surf lifesaving where I was comfortable and had some of my best mates alongside me every day in training. But my dream was to compete in an Olympic Games, win an Olympic medal and represent my country on the world stage - triathlon certainly allowed that dream to become a reality." "I played so many different sports as a kid. My high school sports coordinator first entered me in the state New South Wales All Schools Triathlon, knowing I loved racing and was coming from a swimming and running background. I hired a bike the day before the race, didn't know it had gears, and off I went, somehow making the team for nationals. I love the multi-discipline aspect of triathlon, I get to train across three different sports which for me keeps things fresh and fun every day." "Physical training alone is around 35 hours a week. That involves six swims, six runs, five rides, three gym sessions, and three Pilates sessions. On top, there's treatment and recovery - physiotherapy, massage, seeing an acupuncturist or chiropractor. Then there are additional things like seeing a dietitian and doing meal prep, which is a big part of my day, starting the day prior. It's also important to get enough sleep and stretch, so it's definitely a full-time gig." (honan.com.au, 21 Jul 2021)

General Interest

General
MOVE TO MELBOURNE
In late 2019 she left her home base of Sydney, NSW, Australia, and moved to Melbourne to train with coach Danielle Stefano. "I'm such a home and family orientated person and I've always lived in Sydney. I wanted to be coached by Danielle Stefano, but to do that required relocation. My life was in Sydney, I had just bought an apartment, I was working casually as a nurse, and I didn't know many people in Melbourne. Faced with this choice, my dad told me to lean in and go for it. Whenever I feel cautious about something, I'll look at the options, and where I can, I lean into challenges. Even if it doesn't work out, at least you're not left with questions or regrets. Making the move was the best decision and the risk paid off. The improvements my coach Danielle and I have made together have been unbelievable." (honan.com.au, 21 Jul 2021)

MIXED TEAM RELAY
She says she is excited for the introduction of the mixed team relay event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "It's super exciting. I got my first shot in the mixed team relay in Abu Dhabi [2019 Mixed Relay Series event in the United Arab Emirates], it was so much fun to be a part of. I think it adds a different element to the sport. It is such an individual sport but then you add in this short, fast, mixed team relay event with female-male-female-male kind of leg. It's spectator friendly, the lead's always changing, there's no room for mistakes. I think it's an awesome event to have." (Precision Hydration YouTube channel, 16 Jul 2019)

RUNNING TARGET
In 2019, she said she was focusing on improving her running. "It's something I've been working really hard at. Coming from a swimming background, I've been really proud of my swims and the transition onto the bike." (Precision Hydration YouTube channel, 16 Jul 2019)

RUPTURED APPENDIX
At age three she underwent multiple surgeries to treat a ruptured appendix and spent six months at Westmead Children's Hospital in Sydney, NSW, Australia. "I was in uncontrollable pain for four days before I was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix, by which point I was septic with a complete bowel obstruction and early rupture, and finally looming organ failure. Through more operations than I have fingers and toes, enough x-rays to light up a Christmas tree, and six months of not eating, I distinctly remember this being a really terrible time for me and my family. As a graduate nurse, I went back to visit those nurses who are still working at the Westmead Children's Hospital and who still recognised me." (superswim.org.au, 19 Jan 2021)
