Sweden are making their 11th Olympic appearance in the women's 4x100m medley relay at Tokyo 2020. They first competed at the 1972 Games, and posted their best result - a fourth-place finish - in 1980 in Moscow. They just missed out on a place in the final at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, finishing their heat with the ninth-fastest time overall, just 0.11s behind the final qualifiers Great Britain.

The Swedish team have won a single medal at the world championships, claiming silver at the 2015 edition in Kazan behind the People's Republic of China and ahead of Australia. They finished seventh at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju.
