Tokyo 2020 is Hungary's fifth appearance in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay at the Olympic Games. The team contested the event at both the 2012 and 2016 Games, finishing 14th in London. In Rio the Hungarians were disqualified because all relay-only swimmers did not compete, which contravened a rule introduced by FINA in 2016.

Hungary have appeared in the final at the past two editions of the world championships. They claimed bronze in front of home fans in Budapest in 2017, and recorded a seventh-place finish in Gwangju in 2019.
