RETIREMENT AND RETURN
He retired from the sport in 2016 before making a comeback in 2019. "In 2016 I felt that my career is not developing as fast as I would like. I was on a fairly high level, around sixth place in Poland. I devoted a lot of time to swimming. Back then, I trained more than I do now, often twice a day. However, it did not bring the expected results. In sport, the most important thing for me is fun, the joy in what I do. I didn't want to force my career. It coincided with the fact that I found a job and my priorities changed a bit. Sometimes it's good to take a step back, look at everything with distance. If swimming makes you tired, there is no chance that you will not hate it. One year after my retirement I couldn't even look on swimming pool. It only showed how much I needed a break. In January 2019 I felt that I need some activity, I started to regularly go to the gym. After four months there was a thought to use new muscles in swimming pool. With Krzysztof Janas, my coach and friend, we sat down and chatted about this idea with a bottle of gin. Initially he was sceptic, but I managed to convince him. To late night we were thinking how to work it out. Three months later I went to the national championships and I won." (tvp.pl, 15 May 2021)
