COMEBACK FROM DISQUALIFICATION
At the Australian selection trials for the 2020 Olympic Games he was disqualified from his 200m freestyle heat for moving off the blocks too early. His team appealed the decision, which was eventually overturned and allowed him to compete in the final, in which he came fifth and qualified for the Games. "That 200, after the heat, it was pretty hard. I guess I just found out a lot about myself that day to be honest. It was the lowest of the lows to the highest of the highs. It was unbelievable. It was not a nice feeling. It hit me on the way out. I started breaking down into tears. I didn't have much faith they were going to overturn it. My coach texted me, saying they were in the review stage. Then I got a text about 2:15pm saying I was reinstated. I was in the lounge room with the boys. I was pretty gutted then got the text, straight to the room, lay down, lights off and tried to refocus." (smh.com.au, 16 Jun 2021)
