General Interest

General
France claimed one of the last two Olympic berths available for the women's rugby sevens tournament in Tokyo at the final Olympic qualifying tournament held in June 2021 in Monaco. They went undefeated throughout the tournament, not conceding a single point in any of their five matches to cruise into one of the two available spots for Tokyo 2020.

When the sport made its debut appearance on the Olympic stage in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, France recorded two wins and one loss to finish second in Pool B behind eventual silver medallists New Zealand and advance to the quarterfinals. They were beated 15-5 by Canada at the quarterfinal stage and went on to finish the tournament with an overall ranking of sixth following classification matches against the Spanish and US teams.

France's best result at the World Cup is a runners-up finish, which they achieved at the 2018 World Cup in San Francisco, CA, United States of America. In 2018 they secured wins over Japan, Canada and Australia to reach the final, where they were soundly beaten by New Zealand. At the two previous editions of the tournament, they finished seventh [2009] and 11th [2013].

In the curtailed 2019/20 World Series, the French team achieved their second-best overall ranking, finishing in fourth place. France have only achieved one top-three overall finish, a third in the 2017/18 World Series. They also recorded their best single-leg result during the 2017/18 season, finishing runners-up to New Zealand in the Japan leg.
