General Interest

General
INSPIRATIONAL BROTHER
His older brother Thomas was a promising rugby player who had secured a scholarship when he suffered an on-field injury at age 18, resulting in left-sided paralysis and blindness. Patrick says Thomas serves as his inspiration when playing. "Everything I do in rugby is for him and my family. Playing for two is a good way to put it. When training is tough, if I am injured or mentally drained, often I will remember that I am representing both of us and that gets me through. It's inspiring that he is able to keep such a positive attitude, I'm not sure that I would react the same way if such a horrible thing happened to me. I like to think that at times when Thomas is struggling, he can be proud of some of my accomplishments and even take credit, as he taught me a lot." (aedelhard.com, 05 Jul 2019)

MOVEMBER FOR DAD
In November 2019 he and his Canadian national teammates raised over $3000 participating in 'Movember', a charity campaign that involves growing a moustache for a month to raise money for men's health causes. He said he was motivated to take part by his father being diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier that year. "He's always supported me. He's even travelled all the way to Hong Kong and Singapore multiple times to come watch me play. He has such a positive approach to bad news and it's really rubbed off on me, and makes me appreciate what I have."
