"Growing up, I always refused to play rugby because I was a small kid and I didn't feel like being run into by guys twice my size. When I first played I realised there was no better feeling than making bigger guys miss tackles on me." (vancourier.com, 28 Sep 2011; westernmustangs.ca, 26 Jul 2010)

RETURN TO SEVENS FOR TOKYO
In 2020 he terminated his contract with USON Nevers, his rugby union [15-a-side] club in France, so he could focus on the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He was concerned he would be unable to reach the higher level of fitness required for sevens, as he had not played sevens since Canada's failed attempt to qualify for the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. "I think I always knew I wanted to come back to sevens. The goal was always the Olympics. After four years off, the guys are bigger, faster, quicker, and the defences have changed. In 15-a-side, it's very short spurts of high intensity. It's the same in sevens, but you're immediately back up running. You're hoping for a break but you're just continuously going. And if your body isn't ready for that, it's going to break down." (thetelegram.com, 05 Mar 2020)
