He was involved in rugby union [15-a-side] while in high school at St Michael's College in Dublin, Ireland. After leaving high school, he was then invited to play in a club sevens tournament in Limerick, Ireland. "That was my first taste of sevens. It was a bit of a baptism of fire. There were a few 15s lads thrown together and we only had one or two training sessions beforehand. We were blown out of the park in our first two games. It was kind of trial and error. But we found out what we were good at and found our way towards the end of the tournament." He was invited to join the academy at Irish rugby union [15-a-side] club Connacht after the tournament but returned to sevens with the national squad in 2017.
