He began playing rugby sevens in 2016. (bbc.com, 20 Jun 2021)
:
He was originally involved in athletics as a sprinter and played football before switching to rugby. "Before the rugby, I really wanted to play football, but it is a bit of a cut-throat industry. I really didn't start playing rugby until the age of 18. I actually think I started playing for fun, just a little bit of tag, because I wasn't really that much into rugby back then. Out of that, the captain of my home-town club, Tullamore, said to me, 'You have to come up to senior rugby training, and I'm not taking no for an answer'. He was a police officer and everything, so I was like, 'Okay, yeah, fine. I'll see you Tuesday'." (sportsjoe.ie, 01 Jan 2019)

He was named in the World Series Dream Team for the 2019/20 season. He also received an award for Top Try Scorer during the same season. (the42.ie, 21 Sep 2021; world.rugby, 21 Sep 2020)

He won the Rugby Writers of Ireland Sevens Player of the Year award for the 2019/20 and 2018/19 seasons. (irishrugby.ie, 21 Jan 2021)

While playing rugby union [15-a-side], he was named All-Ireland League Division 1B Player of the Year for 2016/17. (sportsjoe.ie, 01 Jan 2019)

General Interest

General
DYMAMIC DUO
He feels that both he and fellow Ireland rugby sevens player Terry Kennedy complement each other on the pitch with an almost telepathic understanding. The pair combined to score 20 tries during the 2021 Olympic Repechage Tournament in Monaco that saw Ireland qualify for their first Olympic Games. "When you spend every day together, like every year, 24/7, you just build up a chemistry. We might as well be twins. When they're marking me, he'll do the fancy footwork, little side-steps and it's really hard to defend against as well. I'll try and be modest, but I'd say we're an absolute nightmare duo." (world.rugby, 21 Jun 2021)

LATE BLOOMER
He focused on athletics and football before taking up rugby union [15-a-side] at age 18. He played with Tullamore for four years before moving to Buccaneers in Athlone, Ireland. After he joined the academy of Connacht Rugby, where he played 15-a-side with Connacht Eagles [the province's second-tier side], he was then noticed by Ireland sevens coach Anthony Eddy. "With each training session and each match during four years at Tullamore I really started taking a liking to rugby. Then the big move came where I moved to Buccaneers. That's when I started playing better opposition and wanting to go further with it. Then, from the Buccaneers, I got into the Connacht academy and then the sevens came calling. And, literally, the rest is history." (world.rugby, 27 Mar 2021; sportsjoe.ie, 01 Jan 2019)

FROM GERMANY TO IRELAND
Born in Germany, he moved to Ireland with his family at age 10. (world.rugby, 27 Mar 2021)
