She began the sport at age 11 at Dorney Lake in England under the guidance of her father. She started coxing at age 20 after experiencing back problems that affected her ability to row. (hereforsport.com, 23 Sep 2019)

She watched her father take part in a learn-to-row course and was inspired to try the sport herself after seeing him compete. "I was in awe and was desperate to row from that moment. I had to wait until I was 11. When I started secondary school I was so excited to start rowing. I then learnt to row at Dorney Lake. I dragged dad back into it and we've been hooked since. Being out on the water is one of the best feelings in the world." (hereforsport.com, 23 Sep 2019)

"Time. You have so much time, it takes time to get to where you want to be, it takes time to make a decision. Even when you're in the middle of a race, you can create time to make the best decisions. It's always on your side." (hereforsport.com, 23 Sep 2019)

FROM CREWING TO COXING
She started out rowing in a crew position, but at age 20 the pain in her back forced her to give up the oars and start coxing. "I started coxing when I was 20. I had been rowing for nearly 10 years but my back wasn't as much of a fan as I was. Although my size didn't stand me in the best stead for rowing it turns out it was perfect for coxing so I began the transition. I was at University of London Boat Club at this point. I had a good amount of knowledge from rowing but I had no clue what I was doing facing the other way. It was my way into the GB team and that has always been my dream. It was hugely challenging transitioning from rowing to coxing. Although my injury didn't stop me completely, I had to make a decision whether it was worth the pain. I also felt like I was closing the door on my dream competing for GB, little did I know that I was opening doors." (hereforsport.com, 23 Sep 2019)

COACHING
Following in her father's footsteps, she has worked as a coach in both rowing and coxing. She was assistant coach of the Great Britain U23 women's four and eight boats at the 2016 World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and holds a level two British Rowing coaching qualification. She has also coached rowing at The American School in London in England, and has previously coached at other schools and colleges. "Coaching coxes helps me look into where I can step up, so it's a win-win situation." (LinkedIn profile, 07 Aug 2019; britishrowing.org, 01 Oct 2017)
