She began rowing as a way of keeping fit. "I was just trying to find a sports club because I was putting on a bit of weight from all the drinking. My mum said, 'Sign up for everything and you'll make loads of friends'. So I signed up for ultimate frisbee, hockey, rowing, just things that I saw. People did come up to me going, 'You're six foot tall, you'd make a good rower'. I was like, 'I've never heard of it but I'll do it to make friends'. I remember this very good looking guy coming up to me and saying, 'You're a big girl, you deserve to be in a boat somewhere'. I thought, 'Rude, but nice chat up line, I'll take it!' I went every Tuesday and got a kick out of it so I kept on going and they said, 'You could be really good if you took this seriously' so I started going most days." FAMOUS HERITAGE
She is the daughter of Stewart and Amanda Douglas, the Earl and Countess of Moreton in Scotland, and her official title is Lady Katherine Douglas. She is a distant relative of Sir James Douglas, who was one of the commanders during the wars of Scottish independence in the 13th and 14 centuries. "I don't use it. It's not that exciting. It's just a bit of fun. I was 'the honourable' until 2016 when my grandfather died and all the titles moved down. My brother is Lord Aberdour. The family seat was Aberdour Castle, which probably means centuries ago, my great, great, great, great, great grandfather did something good for a king and got given a bit of land and a title and then it's just got passed down. Really, we're very modest, humble farmers. It's not as posh and glamorous as it all looks like online. Oh god, it just sounds like Lord of the Rings, doesn't it?"
