She took up the sport at Oxford Brookes University in England. (teamgb.com, 01 Jan 2021)

She began rowing as a way of keeping fit. "I was just trying to find a sports club because I was putting on a bit of weight from all the drinking. My mum said, 'Sign up for everything and you'll make loads of friends'. So I signed up for ultimate frisbee, hockey, rowing, just things that I saw. People did come up to me going, 'You're six foot tall, you'd make a good rower'. I was like, 'I've never heard of it but I'll do it to make friends'. I remember this very good looking guy coming up to me and saying, 'You're a big girl, you deserve to be in a boat somewhere'. I thought, 'Rude, but nice chat up line, I'll take it!' I went every Tuesday and got a kick out of it so I kept on going and they said, 'You could be really good if you took this seriously' so I started going most days."
