She initially competed in figure skating before switching to rowing. "I was a figure skater for several years and was at my peak. I wasn't making gains and it had started to fade for me. During her time at Western State University, she was named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association [CRCA] All-Region 5 First Team in 2012 and the Pacific-10 All-Conference Team in 2011, as well as being named to the All-Conference First Team on two occasions.
