"It is hard to make the boat go as fast as you want to. The enemy, of course, is resistance of the water, as you have to displace the amount of water equal to the weight of men and equipment, but that very water is what supports you and that very enemy is your friend. So is life - the very problems you must overcome also support you and make you stronger in overcoming them." [George Yeoman Pocock] (Instagram profile, 13 Aug 2015)

ROOMMATES AND RIVALS
Up until the time she graduated from University of California, Berkeley, in 2019, she was roommates at the university with US rower Dana Moffat. They first met at the 2015 Junior World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and became friends after rowing for the university's team. She says it was strange to compete against each other at international races given their close relationship at university. "Every summer since [2015 junior worlds] we've raced each other for opposing countries. It's been an interesting rivalry having to race each other in the summer then come back a week later and be on the same [university] team. It was a little weird lining up on the start line and not being on the same boat. Usually we were pair partners [at university]." (NCAA Twitter profile, 21 Jun 2019)
