In 2011 she was diagnosed with hypothyroid disorder, a thyroid condition which can cause tiredness and a poor ability to tolerate the cold, which affected her ability to train and recover. She worked with doctors, who were able to find the right dose of medication to bring her thyroid levels back to normal, allowing her to continue competing. (olympic.ca, 21 Aug 2016)
