COACHING PASSION
Alongside Great Britain hockey teammate Ed Horler he runs '5-Yards', a hockey coaching organisation that delivers elite training camps, masterclasses, club sessions and one-to-one coaching. Coaching at elite level is something he aspires to do as a future career. "To be totally honest, in terms of my personal career as a coach, I would love to be an international coach. I really would love to coach England and Great Britain in the future. I've been coaching at Wycombe Hockey Club for six seasons now and I've recently taken on the role of player-assistant at Wimbledon which is really cool. I'm a bit of a hockey nerd so I love the tactical part of it, the thinking of how to improve people's technique and making sessions really fun but competitive so people can enjoy hockey as much as I do. As everyone knows, we aren't on a footballer's wage, so we have to have something to do when we retire and it's good to have another side project to balance things out. (belfasttelegraph.co.uk, 03 Dec 2020; Twitter team profile, 18 Nov 2020; 5-yards.co.uk, 01 Jan 2020)

REPRESENTING GREAT BRITAIN
He made 21 appearances for Ireland before making the decision to switch allegiances to represent Great Britain in January 2013. The resignation of then Ireland coach Paul Revington and a desire to play on the world stage contributed to his decision to represent Great Britain. He was forced to sit out three years of international hockey, starting in April 2012, before he could make his debut in 2015. "Both on a personal level and on a sporting level, it is [a decision] that I feel is right for me and for my future in the sport. The sequence of events that have occurred since the departure of former coach Paul Revington have made me question the probability of sustained success for the Ireland team, and also the likelihood of the team consistently competing in major world and European level competitions over the next 12 years."
