RIO DISAPPOINTMENT
She missed out on selection for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In 2020 she said that despite struggling with missing out on Rio, where Great Britain won gold, she believes the experience was important for her development. "When I was back in Scotland for that year after Rio, I started to build myself back up again. I went back to playing for Edinburgh Uni and then Scotland and I was getting on really well in those environments. Then after I graduated, the opportunity came up again with GB and at that point, I felt better than ever and I had started to believe in myself again. I'm so glad I went through everything I did before Rio - it was tough and it was character-building but I learnt so much in that time, and it's stood me in much better stead for this [Olympic] cycle. Having that time away from GB made such a difference because now, I've made a conscious decision to be here. I had to think about if I wanted to go to the Olympics and if I believed I was good enough to get there." (heraldscotland.com, 20 Dec 2020)
