He was a promising footballer as a teenager but chose to focus on hockey. "I've got no regrets about finishing football because it's such a cut-throat industry and not a very nice environment unless you're in that one per cent who go on to make it big. My parents were great with me, but you'd see some who wanted their kids to be the next Cristiano Ronaldo, which, in all honesty, isn't going to happen.
