She was encouraged to take up the sport after her running coach at Metro St. Brigid's Athletics Club in Dublin, Ireland, advised her she would be better suited to hockey. "I was running quite competitively and playing [Gaelic] football for Dublin in school but was actually getting injured as I was trying to do both. My running coach [Charlie Martin] told me that I probably had more chance in hockey than running.
