General Interest

General
Brazil progressed to their sixth Olympic Games through the Men's Olympic Qualification Tournaments held in March 2021. The Brazilians finished second in Tournament 1 of the event in Montenegro, where Norway joined them in securing a spot for Tokyo.

Brazil were ranked seventh at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, which was the team's best finish in a men's Olympic handball tournament. They placed third in their preliminary group to book a spot in their first Olympic quarterfinal, but were defeated 34-27 by the eventual silver medallists France. Prior to this Brazil's highest ranking at the Olympic Games was 10th, which they achieved in a 12-team competition in 2004.

The Brazilian team's best world championship finish is ninth, which came in 2019. At the 2021 edition in Egypt, they progressed from the preliminary phase with two draws and a loss. The team secured one win in the main round, a 37-17 demolition of Uruguay, but suffered defeat in their other matches and finished the tournament in 18th place.

Brazil are one of the dominant forces in handball in the Americas. In nine appearances at the Pan American Games since 1987, the team have never failed to win a medal, taking three gold, four silver and two bronze medals. At the 2019 Games in Lima, they lost 32-29 to Chile in the semifinals but recovered to beat Mexico 32-20 in the third-place playoff.

Brazil's Pan American championship record is similarly stellar. They have finished on the podium at the last 11 tournaments, a streak that goes back to 1998 and includes three titles.
