She began playing football at age 10 at primary school in Auckland, New Zealand. (nzfootbal.co.nz, 04 Mar 2015)

Her father Mark, who worked as a football coach at Westlake Girls' High School in Auckland, New Zealand, encouraged her to play football. "I started playing in goal when I was about 10, so I've been playing there for a long time and I've got better and better as I've gone along and stuck to it. I just found it exciting going in goal and I liked the thrill of when I saved a goal and that everyone would cheer." (stuff.co.nz, 31 Jan 2009; nzfootball.co.nz, 01 Aug 2016)

General Interest

General
THE QUIET ONE
She says she is one of the quieter members of the New Zealand national team ahead of a match. "I'm more of a quiet one, so I'll keep to myself and try and get my mind ready for the game. I'll listen to the music that they have, though, because they have good choices, but I'm not one of those crazy ones. There are a few in the Ferns [New Zealand national team] that get up and dance. I don't know how they're not tired before they go out." (beatsandrhymesfc.com, 12 Oct 2020)

WRITING
She works as a freelance copywriter, and in 2020 she released her own ebook titled 'The Goalkeeper's Handbook: Mental Training Toolkit to Achieve Success in Goal'. "I do a lot of writing, which I really enjoy. I sort of did it on the side to earn some extra money but I also enjoy the creative side of it. I think having those things on the side can really balance life, which is really important, because if goalkeeping was the only thing I did, I think it would be so tough to not have anything to take your mind away from that, especially when you've made a mistake or haven't performed." MOVE TO ENGLAND
In 2020 she joined English Women's Super League [WSL] club Reading after playing the previous four seasons in France with Lyon and Bordeaux. "I think coming from France, being there for four years, really tested [me] a lot, so coming here to an English-speaking country, it's been a lot easier to deal with things, in terms of setting everything up. On-the-field stuff, the first week definitely was quite challenging, just coming into a new team, having travelled 58 hours from New Zealand. I was quite jet-lagged for that first week. I'm settling in now, I'm starting to find my feet again. I came over with my fiancee, which has been a big help. I've always wanted to play in the league here [WSL], it's a really strong and highly-regarded league." (stuff.co.nz, 12 Jul 2020)

W-LEAGUE EXPANSION
In 2020 she voiced her support for the prospect of New Zealand clubs joining the W-League in Australia. "I think it would really grow the game in New Zealand and also it would help our national team develop a lot. The World Cup bid will help to push that, and I hope it happens before the World Cup [in New Zealand and Australia in 2023]. Because then I would look at coming home and playing here." (stuff.co.nz, 12 Jul 2020)

OTHER STUDIES
In 2010 she spent a year studying biology at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne in the United States of America. In 2020 graduated with a diploma in health services, allied health and health sciences at the Naturopathic College of New Zealand, and in the same year began studying for a graduate diploma in sustainable management at the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand.
